Air Boss 102: Recurrency Training

Air Boss 102 is the ICAS Air Boss Recognition Program (ABRP) recurrency course for Basic Air Boss (BAB), Standard Air Boss (SAB), Recognized Air Boss / Single Venue (RAB/SV), and Recognized Air Boss / Multiple Venue (RAB/MV) Letter of Authorization (LOA) holders who need to renew. The FAA accepts it for continuing education under ABRP Manual Section 11(a)(vi). Air Boss Instructors and Air Boss Evaluators take it too, since they teach and assess this same material.

The course runs virtual or in person and closes with a written exam plus a practical evaluation. Ten required modules carry the day: accident and incident review, FAA focus items, program changes across ABRP, ACE, FAST, and the show management organizations, FAA Order 8900.1 updates, emergency response readiness, airport and ground operations integration, military team participants, CRM and human factors, instruction and evaluation, and standardized Air Boss phraseology.

That last module is new this cycle. It works through the Standardized Air Boss Lexicon, ICAS’s response to NTSB Safety Recommendation A-24-35 following the Wings Over Dallas collision. The lexicon is a discussion draft, not yet an adopted FAA or ICAS standard, and candidates should treat it as such.
